Sabah Shift Focus To Premier League After Cup Exit

3 Mac, 2015

PETALING JAYA: Sabah will now mount a serious challenge in the Premier League after their early exit in the FA Cup.

With one less tournament to play in, Sabah head coach Justin Ganai can now fully shift his team’s focus on the second-tier title.

“We hope we can win the league and gain promotion to the Super League, it is our target this season,” he said.

However Justin believes his team need to learn from their 3-0 defeat in their second round FA Cup match against Super League outfit Police at the Shah Alam Stadium last Friday.

Despite creating numerous chances Sabah were unable to contain the strike partnership of Dramane Traore and Ali Ashfaq who were responsible for all three goals.

Traore (40th and 45th minutes) bagged a brace while Ali scored in the 27th minute.

“The loss is a disappointment because we had our fair share of attempts at goal.

“If we had scored from at least one of those chances the outcome of the match might have been different.”

Sabah have done rather well in the Premier League so far as they lie fourth in the standings with six points from three matches.

They were victorious against Kuala Lumpur (2-0) and DRB Hicom (3-2) with their only defeat against UiTM FC (2-1).

Sabah will be looking for another win against basement side SPA Putrajaya at the Likas Stadium on Friday.
