PETALING JAYA: Indra Putra Mahayuddin has had enough of playing the bridesmaid’s role.
The 33-year-old Felda United stalwart is hoping to end his miserable run after picking up three runners-up medals last season.
“I have been on the winners podium on many occasions especially in my stints with Perak, Pahang and Kelantan. I have only come close with Felda but I hope to repay them with at least a champions trophy this time,” said Indra.
Felda finished runners-up to Police in the Premier League campaign and were beaten by Pahang (2-1) in the FA Cup final last year.
Indra made a return to the national squad after a six-year lapse but saw Malaysia finished behind Thailand in the 2014 AFF Suzuki Cup tournament.
The Fighters have had a good start in the Super League campaign and have gone undefeated in three matches. The squad under Irfan Bakti are currently tied at the top with Perak on seven points.
Indra is optimistic Felda would be vying for honours again as they have an established set of players.
They retained their foreign legion led by 2014 Premier League’s Golden boot winner Edward Wilson from Liberia and Australia’s Ndumba Makeche who have been scoring regularly. And they have the energetic Liberian Zah Rahan Krangar to man the midfield.
Serbian centreback Bojan Miladinovic is their fourth signing this season.
The only setback for Felda is their early exit in the FA Cup competition. They went down to Selangor 4-2 on penalty kicks in the second round after both teams were tied 2-2 in extra-time.
