National U-16 Football Team Win Tourney In China

PETALING JAYA: The national Under-16 boys team emerged champions in the China-ASEAN International youth football tournament.

The Malaysians defeated Vietnam 2-0 in the final at the Dongxing City Stadium, Guangxi Province in China on Wednesday.

The goals came from Zainur Ariffin (54th) and Arif Shaqrin (74th).

In the four-nation tournament, Malaysia lost to China (1-0) but bounced back with a win over Myanmar (1-0) and drew with Vietnam (0-0).

The national Under-16 side coached by former Selangor player P. Somasundram are gearing up for the Asian Under-16 Championship that will be held later this year.

The venue of the Asian Under-16 tournament will be announced later.
