PETALING JAYA: Selangor will be looking to maintain their good run of form when they play Terengganu in the FA Cup third round at the Shah Alam Stadium on Wednesday.
The Red Giants are on a three-game winning streak in all competitions since their poor start to the season.
Their resurgence started against Felda United in their second round FA Cup match when they came back from two goals down to draw level before winning it 4-2 on penalties.
A fire looked to have been lit within them following that dramatic win as they went on to beat Police 4-1 and Sarawak 2-0 in the Super League.
The two league victories saw them jump from 10th in the standings to third with eight points.
“We are playing good football now. The chances we have always been creating are now turning into goals,” said Selangor coach Mehmed Durakovic.
“And even though we are a team without superstars but all the players are working very hard and our quality is starting to show.”
However, still fresh in the minds of Durakovic’s side will be their 2-0 loss to the Turtles in their opening Super League match.
And this time Selangor won’t have the services of influential captain and defender Shahrom Abdul Kalam who will be out for five weeks with a groin injury he sustained against Police.
Right back Azmi Muslim will also be out for another week due to a fractured rib; so will nippy winger Andik Vermanysah, who is serving a one-match FA Cup suspension and still recovering from a hamstring injury.
But Durakovic remains optimistic of the Red Giants’ chances against the east coast side.
“Yes we will be without some of our first team players in Shahrom and Andik but I have enough players who can get the job done.
“And if we can keep the momentum I think we can get a positive result,” said the Australian.
