PETALING JAYA: The Mighty Reds will bring the famous Anfield atmosphere to Kuala Lumpur once again!

Liverpool legend Ian Rush has promised a football feast for not only the fans but also the Malaysian Selection, who will be playing against Brendan Rodgers’ side at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil on July 24 (kick-off at 8.45pm).

“You will never get a better football lesson in front of 80,000 to 90,000 fans ... it’ll be great exposure for the Malaysian players," said Rush after the English Premier League club confirmed their return to Malaysia at a press conference on Wednesday.

This will be Liverpool’s second visit to Malaysia. The Reds were given a rousing reception when they trounced the Malaysian Selection 6-3 in front of 80,000 fans in 2011.

Olly Dale, the club's commercial director, confirmed that the first team will be here, including club legends Robbie Fowler and Rush.

He said the touring party would also include coaching staff from the club’s charity wing – Liverpool FC Foundation – to carry out community work.

“We are excited to be back after the overwhelming response in 2011,” said Dale.

National coach Dollah Salleh said that July 24 would be an important date in the national team’s calendar as they prepare for the World Cup qualifiers later this year.

"Of course, I’m looking forward to this high-profile match. It will be another opportunity for the local players to taste top-class action,” said Dollah.

ProEvents chief executive officer Julian Kam, said: “Securing the return of one of the world’s top football clubs to play a match in Kuala Lumpur is testament to the way Malaysian fans have embraced Liverpool.”

He also said that details of ticket sales will be announced next month.

The Anfield side are also scheduled to play in Australia during their pre-season tour. Liverpool will play two matches Down Under – in Brisbane on July 17 and Adelaide three days later.
