Felda Fighting For Super League Domination
13 April, 2015
Makeche scored a goal in Felda's 3-2 win over Police at the Selayang Stadium on Saturday.
PETALING JAYA: They don’t call them Fighters for nothing.
And Felda United showed why when they twice fought back to defeat Police 3-2 at the Selayang Stadium on Saturday.
They snatched victory until the very last minute with two goals from Australian striker Ndumba Makeche (86th minute) and Liberian Edward Wilson (94).
The Cops took the lead through defender Muslim Ahmad’s free-kick in the 24th minute before Mohd Syamim Yahya equalised five minutes later.
Maldivian hotshot Ali Ashfaq quickly restored Police’s lead in the 33rd minute but Felda had the final celebration with the two late goals.
Felda now sits second in the Super League on 14 points level with Selangor. The Red Giants lead on goal difference.
“It was a team effort and the players did not get discouraged after going a goal down twice,” said Felda coach Irfan Bakti.
“We really needed this win to bounce back after our defeat to Perak,” he said referring to the 4-1 thrashing they received from the Seladang a fortnight ago.
Despite the win against the highest scoring team in the league (15 goals), Irfan was not satisfied with his team’s defence.
“In the first half our defenders lost their concentration. But they were much better after the breather which is good.”
On Saturday, Felda’s defence will again be tested against Terengganu who have scored 13 goals so far this season and a strikeforce that boasts last season’s Golden Boot winner Paulo Rangel with 16 goals and national striker Abdul Manaf Mamat (4).
“They will be a handful and our defenders must step up their game and stay focused.”
Their defence are manned by veteran Shukor Adan, Bojan Miladinovic, Mohd Aizul Razali and Hasni Zaidi Jamian.
