National Squad To Be Revamped, Dollah's Position Safe For Now - Hamidin
18 Jun, 2015
PETALING JAYA, June 18 (Bernama) -- The National squad that suffered a humiliating 0-6 defeat to Palestine in a Group A World Cup 2018 Qualifier on Tuesday will be revamped for a second time.
National head coach Dollah Salleh had reshuffled his squad after the international friendly against Tottenham Hotspurs but the second reshuffle could see a majority of the team facing the chop.
Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) secretary-general Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin said a meeting would be held to discuss the national squad's plunging performance against Timor Leste and Palestine on June 11 and June 16.
"A 0-6 defeat is the most difficult result for me to accept since my involvement in football and I myself cannot accept it. I had a meeting with Dollah himself but let the technical committee make their assessment on the players," he told reporters after a signing a memorandum of understanding between FAM and J.League at Wisma FAM, Thursday.
Hamidin who is also the national team manager said Dollah's position was still safe at the moment but any decision would depend on FAM president Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.
The FAM secretary-general said they (he and Dollah) were preparing a report on the performance of the players and the report would be tabled in the meeting which is scheduled on July 10.
When commenting on a statement by Johor Football Association (PBNJ) President Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim to stop using players from Johor Darul Ta'zim for national duty, he said any player chosen must represent the country.
Hamidin said the statement from the PBNJ president was made because several parties had through the media blamed the JDT players for the National team's defeat when playing against Palestine.
Tunku Ismail had Wednesday issued a statement in an entry on Johor Southern Tigers official Facebook, urging the National football team management to stop using the services of JDT players for national duty.
