S. Balachandran led the Harimau Muda D U16 team to win the Asia Champions Trophy last year. He then was just one step away from bringing Malaysia to qualify to the U17 World Cup only to lose to Australia in the Quarter Final of the AFC U-16 Qualification in Bangkok.
In an interview with Arena E-Magazine, May 2015 edition Balachandran explained that he strives for bigger challenge after a stint as the National youth coach since 2011. Though he just joined Frenz United in December 2014 but he is well familiar with the competition organizes by Frenz United. Personally he has participated in 4 of the 6 tournaments including all three edition of Frenz International Cup 2013, 2014 and 2015. He believes only in exposure at this level will any player/s improve to higher quality.
Speaking to www.act.frenzunited.com.my over a phone interview, he believes his Frenz United B team is well prepared for the new season. Drawn with the same group as the Japanese powerhouse Kashima Antlers, Phnom Penh Crown FC and PVF FA he is strategically preparing the team for this Saturday match against PVF FA of Vietnam. “They (PVF FA) are very strong side physically and technically as well.
As coach he played against the Vietnamese team in the 2 leg final last year and he didn’t take that as an advantage for now. “It’s very challenging. Different challenge as I am with different team but I understand their game and I hope we can take advantage playing at home in Hang Tuah Stadium in front of our own fans.
The ACT2013 second top goal scorer, Akhmar Haiqal is expected to start the game as main striker this Saturday for Frenz United B as they begin their campaign in ACT 2015. When speaks about his target for the competition, Balachandran cautiously said “We take it one game at a time”.
The second group B match of the Asia Champions Trophy 2015 between Frenz United B and PVF FA will be played in Hang Tuah Stadium with kick-off is scheduled at 8.15pm.
