MSSM championships on its way

The Majlis Sukan Sekolah Malaysia (MSSM) championships is organised by the Ministry of Education (MOE) and held annually. More than just being a competition for school students in a multitude of sports, however, it also serves as one of the platforms to showcase the biggest and brightest sporting talents in the country.

Now that the MSSM championships for football are getting underway today, no surprises then that the National Football Development Programme (NFDP) coaches are here in Shah Alam, Selangor to scout for and identify players for their next National Sports School intake. The tournament gathers about 23 coaches to observe the U-12s, U-15s and U-18s in action. It is noted that among coaches that form the scouting team are Dato’ Richard Scully and Mohd. Reduan Abdullah.


Having had to come through district, then state level selections prior to today’s showpiece, the teams participating are competing at the national level. With the pool of talent available, the NFDP can then select the best of the best to be taken under their wing apart of its continuous scouting in the Liga Akademi Tunas Zon, and Liga PPBN that are currently being held nationwide. Players who make the cut will be enrolled into a National Sports School which they will receive high-level coaching and tutelage for sports school students, which will enable them to take their skills and capabilities to an even higher level.


Players’ performances are rated using a number of criteria predetermined by the talent scouting unit with matches being held at various locations across Selangor. Once again, the tournament begins today and will draw to a close on Thursday (18th August 2016).
