PUTRAJAYA, Oct 11 (Bernama) - The Kedah Football Association (KFA) became the first state to form a working relationship with the National Football Development Programme (NFDP) to develop junior football in the state.
Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said both KFA and NFDP had agreed to pool their resources to carry out initiatives that involve football development at the grassroots.
"KFA is the first state to associate itself with NFDP. Through the MoU, apart from working together, an academy may also be set up under NFDP in Kedah.
"NFDP will continue programmes at the Tunas Academies, District Training Centres and Kedah State Sports School and provide a pool of players for the Dato' Ahmad Basri Academy (ADAB)," he said after witnessing the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between KFA and NFDP at Menara KBS, here Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah said the cooperation with NFDP would further inspire fans and young players in the state who have the talent to go far.
"I am confident that through such a cooperation, we will be able to have a bigger pool of back up players because Kedah need the support and assistance of the Youth and Sports Ministry.
"We set up the Dato' Ahmad Basri Academy to inspire the young generation in Kedah to take up the sport," said Ahmad Bashah who is also the KFA President.
