Select Truly Eligible Players For National Squad- Tengku Abdullah

22 Mac, 2015

KUALA LUMPUR, March 22 (Bernama) -- Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) president Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah wants national squad coach Dollah Salleh to be careful when selecting naturalised players apart from giving priority to existing local players to join the national squad.

"We have to look at what is available in the country first, study those who are eligible for the national squad first. Do not take naturalised players just to fill quota.

"Their performance should be even better than existing local players. I am not the coach but what Dollah said about naturalised players is rational but we have to give opportunities to our local players first," he told reporters today.

Dollah is reported as having an open mind on using the services of naturalised players to strengthen the national squad even though some parties may be unhappy with the move.

Dollah said he would not obstruct any proposals on taking foreign players to don national jerseys so long as it was done according to the law.

Meanwhile, Tengku Abdullah said he hoped Dollah would address the weaknesses of the national squad which will be facing Oman in a class A friendly match at Seeb Sports Stadium in Oman on March 26.

"I have informed Dollah that he must tweak the squad. If he could turn things around as shown in the AFF Suzuki Cup recently, it will be good," he said.
